Im going to be having my baby in December so yup a winter baby. I’ve posted up a similiar question but I have another one about dressing your newborn in the winter. Did you put an onesie underneath their clothing during the day and night? What is the best way to dress your infant in the night so hes not cold or overheated. Or what should the room temperature be? And much clothes what I really need?

Lots of layers, onsie, socks, hat, sleeper, etc.
For the night I liked those little sleeping bags with arms, can’t remember what they were called, now the baby hates them (shes a January baby) so fleece works just fine.
One thing I wanted to note, little pantyhose are awesome, for boys and girls, they are warm and help keep little socks on. I used them will all my kids.
The bedroom should be 68-70 degrees at night, for the rest of the day, if baby is on the floor, I guage it by my feet, if they are cold, the floor is too cold for baby,
my 3 month old sleeps in a onsie sleeper (with feet), usually the ones with zippers but we have some with the buttons. her room is about 75 degrees at night and she sleeps just fine. if she is asleep in her bouncer then ill put a blanket over her chest and feet. I never put a blanket by her neck and arms unless we are outside and its chilly and i can keep a close eye on her. if we are outside and its chilly i also put a hat on her head and a warm blanket. if she’s not wearing a sleeper then i make sure shes got socks on and a long sleeve shirt/onsie top and of course her pants on. remember that if you over dress your baby at night and anyother time…if they get too hot, that can cause them to get sick as well as being too cold. (pediatrician’s advice to me). also you cant determine if the baby is too cold by touching it’s feet or hands b/c when they are first born they cant control their body temperature
Make the house a comfy temp for a lightly dressed adult. 65 to 75 degrees. All they need is a sleeper OR an undershirt and a sleep sack. Babies hsould not be wearinf hats indoors, they will get too warm. And of course keeping a baby too warm is a risk for SIDS. Baby should be cool while sleeping. Trust me, you will probably ONLY be putting a onesie on baby durng the day and you’ll go through severak a day. Of course if you are taking baby out dress them warm but mind the temp of stores, car, etc. If you don’t have a layer you can take off the baby will end up miserably hot.
Put your baby in onesies top and bottom with nice socks and then dress him in his regular clothes on top. Always cover with a blanket, and pop on a little cap to help him stay warm.
Imo, the only way to keep my kids warm was to put them in zip-up fleece jammies with feet. A blanket can be misplaced, kicked, etc., but jammies can’t. Now if you have a bright child, he’ll figure out how to bring the zip down and you’ll wake to a chilly very uncomfortable baby. I had to use a diaper pin at the top of the zipper so my son couldn’t get it down. Score 1 for the big guys.
Your room temperature should be several degrees lower than what you keep it during the day. Everyone sleeps better with cool air, and baby is no exception.

Invest in some fleece sleepers and use your best judgment with layers. A way to check your baby’s temperature is to feel their neck(this is the best indicator to tell if they are cold or hot). I doubt you’ll need a whole lot for that first month aside from sleepers. You may want to have a few “cute” outfits if you plan on visiting people, though. A snow suit or bunting(one without legs) will be a good idea as well.
Our house is always set between 70 and 72 degrees. Now that it’s getting colder outside we put our 7 month old in a sleeper and then cover him with a heavier blanket for sleep. However, with a newborn, you probably won’t want to put them down with a blanket. You could try a sleep sack over a sleeper if your house gets extremely cold.
My daughters were born in December, and at night I put them in a fleece sleeper blanket, and a onesie in winter.
